Being neighborly

Tollhouse cookies are good. I've made lots of chocolate chip cookies from scratch, using many different recipes. Two weeks ago, I baked "Alexis Stewart's Brown Sugar Chocolate Chip Cookies". They were good. My guests raved.

Today, I baked cookies for a neighbor as a "thank you" for a favor they'd done me earlier in the week. Their children range from eleven to three, so I decided on a mix of chocolate chip and sugar cookies. I used the pre-made dough; the kind that comes in squares. You just place them on the pan and bake.  Just before I slid the pan of sugar cookies into the oven, I sprinkled them with colored sugar.

It wasn't about short-cuts. It was about taste and the way they come out in perfect circles.

If I thought I could do better I would have. Sometimes starting from scratch is just overkill...
