Easy Peasy Puff Balls
Yesterday we had our family Christmas party which is traditionally a conflagration of yummy appetizers. It's always fun to introduce something new. This year I brought Easy Peasy Puff Balls. Less than five minutes after saying the blessing, the puff balls went "poof".
This is an easily adaptable recipe. Most versions suggest using crescent roll dough but you could use small amounts of any kind of refrigerated dough. The idea is to create a small pocket for the yummy filling, which can be most anything. Using the suggested cream cheese base, you can mix in any kind of savory meat or vegetable. Or go your own way! Use a tiny dollop of your favorite preserves for a sweet treat.
Get your kids involved! Let them make this one, while you go on to the next thing on your list.
What's In It:
6 slices bacon, fried, drained, and chopped (Many versions of this recipe call for pepperoni)
2 tsp. dip mix, seasoning blend, or soup mix (I used "Tastefully Simple" Spinach & Herb dip mix. You could use Knorr soup mix, Ranch dressing mix or any other seasoning mix you like)
1 8-oz pkg. cream cheese, softened (Save money! I bought the store brand for $1.00 last week.)
2 10-oz pkg. refrigerated crescent dinner rolls (Store brand is fine.)
Olive oil
How To Make It:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Fry bacon and drain on paper towels before chopping. Place chopped bacon between 2 layers of paper towels and pat to remove excess fat.
Mix bacon, cream cheese and seasoning mix, stirring well.
Separate cresent rolls into individual triangles.
Flatten each triangle and slice into three smaller triangles. (I used a pizza cutter to do this easily)
Place a small spoonful of cheese mixture on large end of dough triangle.
Fold all sides in, covering filling completely. (Leaving openings allows cheese to escape and burn.)
Place on cookie sheet and repeat, allowing 2 inches between puff balls. (Fills 2+ cookie sheets)
Brush tops with olive oil before baking.
Bake for 11 to 15 minutes, or until tops begin to brown.
Serve warm.
